I confess, I’m a convert. I haven’t always been a huge fan of planners and day of coordinators. My early experiences were not always of the most professional body of vendors, however trust me, the great ones are worth their weight in gold. I get it, it’s an extra expense and Aunt Mildred said she can be your “day of” but if you want your day to go swimmingly then read on as I give you all the reasons planners should be high on your budget list.
Firstly, you should definitely know there is a huge difference between a venue coordinator and a wedding planner. A venue coordinator will take care of all things associated with the venue, from ensuring the climate control is set, to mowing. From setting up your chairs and tables to the less than glamorous stocking of the bathrooms. But a venue coordinator will not arrange your timeline or get you down the aisle on time and that’s why you want to find a coordinator who will quickly become your wedding day bff!
Take away the pressure on your big day.
Planners and day of coordinators do what it says on the box and they handle all the day of details, from time-lines to vendor coordination, to pinning boutonnieres and basically ensuring the day runs smoothly.
They save you time.
Professional planners should have a network of trusted vendors and contacts who they can recommend to you, saving you hours of research time. They also know what should be done and when so you’ll always be on top of your planning.
They listen to your vision
and make sure that it comes to fruition of the big day. Many will help set up your table decor and ensure any forgotten items are retrieved.
They will be there on your rehearsal night
and will run through everything to make sure everybody know their place and time.
They put out potential fires.
They will chase down Grandpa and make sure the best man has the ring, they will make sure the flower girl has her petals and basically perform human tetris. They will coordinate with the DJ for announcements and prompt the photographer for sunset photos. They will always have a needle and thread just in case something comes adrift and they know exactly how to bustle your dress.
They’ll introduce you to new and on trend ideas.
I know, I know Pinterest has endless ideas but your planner will have the experience for what will work at your venue and what will work for your vibe so you get a cohesive style.
They can referee tricky situations
from uncle Fred who has one too many glasses of champagne to a disgruntled bridesmaid to a difficult vendor who hasn’t stepped up. Things happen and your planner will field all the awkward situations, often without you even realising anything is wrong.
